Brenda and Joann are neighbors and friends who combine their unique abilities, to create pieces of garden art. Each piece begins with an inspiration and evolves organically into a piece that is meant to be used and enjoyed.

We would love you to stop in and see us at one or all of our three locations.

Joann Smith

The Plains of South Dakota

Marion, SD 57043
joann@chippedchina.com

Joann can best be described as an "Artist by Accident". After 25 years in the corporate world, Joann accidentally discovered Pique Assiette. Much to her surprise, she discovered that she could actually use this technique to create unique garden art. Joann has been creating mosaic garden art for over 5 years.

There is nothing accidental about Joann being on a South Dakota farm. Although it took her over 30 years to get back home, Joann is a "South Dakota farm girl by Heritage". Her ancestors were homesteaders in Hyde County, South Dakota in August, 1895. While she couldn't have her great-grandmother's Hyde County farm house -- she did find a wonderful old farmhouse of the same vintage near Marion, South Dakota.

When not working in her studio creating garden art, Joann can be found working to renovate her much loved farm house.
